Achraf Hakimi scored a nice free kick against Gabon (2-2) on Tuesday evening at CAN 2022, allowing Morocco to finish first in group C.
The right side of PSG took out his hero costume of the Moroccan nation. Led by the score (2-1) as the end of regulation time approached, Vahid Halilhodzic’s men were able to count on the former Inter Milan player, who scored this sublime free kick in the opposite corner of the Gabonese porter (84e).
Before that, the Moroccans, already qualified for the round of 16 before kick-off but not sure of their final place in this group, had first conceded the opener by Jim Allevinah who took advantage of a terrible slip by Sofian Chakla (22e).
Then, the Atlas lions had to wait for the 74e minute for Sofiane Boufal to equalize from the penalty spot.
But the Panthers, despite the departures of Mario Lemina and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, continued to push and regained the advantage after an own goal from Rennais Nayef Aguerd (81e). This is where Achraf Hakimi decided to pull out all the stops.
Thanks to this draw, Morocco therefore finished first in group C (7 pts) ahead of Gabon (5 pts). The Comoros, surprising winners of Ghana, finished third (3 pts). André Ayew’s Black Stars are dead last and eliminated with a small point.
