Live. Covid-19: towards a timetable for lifting restrictions to “give visibility”

5:50 am: A defense council to “give visibility” on the restrictions

Emmanuel Macron brings together a defense council devoted to the health crisis, this Thursday morning. The Elysée must “give visibility” regarding the restrictions linked to the health crisis, government sources said. Even if, it was specified, the epidemiological situation must maintain the status quo for at least fifteen days.

Among the options of the council chaired by Emmanuel Macron, an intermediate solution is at this stage preferred. It consists of giving a timetable for lifting the restrictions, in particular with regard to gauges, the ban at least until January 24 on standing concerts and the closing of nightclubs.

The Covid bill is 140 billion euros for the State

The Minister of Public Accounts, Olivier Dussopt, estimates the overall bill for the Covid-19 crisis at 140 billion euros so far. “In detail, we have 70 billion in expenditure in 2020, a little over 60 billion in 2021 and around ten billion for 2022”, he detailed in an interview with Les Echos, specifying that this figure did not take into account the recovery plan or the investment plan.

At the same time, state revenues in 2021 were nearly 20 billion euros higher than what the government anticipated in October.

The teachers are back on the streets. A new day of action, at the call of the unions, is scheduled for Thursday, a week after the large-scale mobilization, which had seen the executive announce reinforcements and FFP2 masks.

Again, teachers will protest against the management of the health crisis in education. The most important demonstration should take place in the afternoon in Paris. At first, the authorities refused to authorize it, citing procedural problems. Faced with outcry, the police headquarters finally let it be known that the rally would be “tolerated”.
