French fashion designer Thierry Mugler has died

Iconic French haute couture designer Thierry Mugler died Sunday of natural causes, according to his agent. Mugler turned 73 years old.

Mugler had a great influence on fashion in the 1980s, and his daring collections came to define the style of the decade – powerdressing. His clothes were known for their structured and sophisticated silhouettes.

In later years, he dressed up both Beyoncé and Lady Gaga, and in 2019, he temporarily stepped out of retirement to create an outfit for Kim Kardashian.

– We are devastated to have to announce the passing of Mr Manfred Thierry Mugler on Sunday 23 January 2022, it says in a post on the designer’s official Facebook account.

The designer was to announce new collaborations this week, his agent Jean-Baptiste Rougeot informs the news agency AFP.

Mugler was born in Strasbourg in December 1948, came to Paris as a 20-year-old and created his own brand “Cafe de Paris” in 1973. The following year he founded “Thierry Mugler”.
