“Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice,” Manchester United wrote in a statement – according to several British journalists who follow the club closely.
Earlier Sunday, the club issued the following statement:
– We are aware of photos and allegations circulating on social media. We will not comment further until the facts are on the table. Manchester United does not tolerate violence of any kind, it is said in a statement from the club.
It comes after Mason Greenwood’s girlfriend on Sunday published photos and audio recordings on Instagram with what is to prove that the Manchester United player has exposed her to violence.
The posts have since been removed from Instagram.
Earlier Sunday, the newspaper Mirror received a statement from the police in Greater Manchester, where they did not confirm that it was Greenwood.
– The police are aware of photos and videos circulating on social media. Investigations are underway to find out the circumstances.
The Manchester Evening News has the same information.
Mason Greenwood broke through fully as a Manchester United player under Ole Gunnar Solskjær after the corona break in 2020. Despite his young age, he has already managed to play over 100 games in red.
This season he has played 24 games for the club, scoring six goals.
He last played for West Ham on 22 January.
This is not the first time Mason Greenwood has been in the media spotlight with a negative sign. In 2020, he and teammate Phil Foden were sent home from the national team gathering with England after violating the covid rules.
Later that year, a video appeared in which the young boy inhaled nitrous oxide.
– As an 18-year-old, I learn all the time. This week I have also learned that as a football player I will be judged by higher standards, something I must respect in the future. I will be determined to repay the trust the manager and coaches have shown me, Greenwood said in September 2020.
The 20-year-old is basically under contract with Manchester United until 2023.
